Days of Loss, Ice, and Sea smoke.

I guess I was really surprised at my reaction to last Sunday's
loss in the AFC Championship game. Truth is I was over it in an
amazingly short time. I mean I was over it. Oh don't get me wrong, I cursed and complained, and screamed at the TV. But by the next day? I was fine. I even thought to myself..."wow that wasn't so bad this time around..."

I have become immune to it all by now. The excitement of watching your favorite NFL team year after year, go deep into the play-offs, only to lose it in these crucial games, has finally made my skin so thick that nothing bothers me. Certainly losing
a big game like last week would be reason to be upset. But honestly, what can any of us do?

We're football fans. Not coaches. Not players. We're fans.

I realized that at the end of the day, the Patriots winning or losing has no bearing on my life. I am not going to get healthier
if the Patriots win. My family and friends will not succeed with good health and happiness if they win. Nor will they fail if they lose. It is after all, just a game. A game that some very talented athletes who get paid HUGE amounts of money to play this game every week.

That's it. It's just a game. However...

I love being a fan. And I will continue to be a fan because it is entertaining. I just won't invest all that emotion into something that I have very little control over. I used to be so jealous of my friends who hate any kind of organized sports. They had nothing invested in any of these games. They had no favorite team. No favorite player. Nothing. I used o be jealous of them.

But not anymore. I have accepted the fact that I am a fan. And I wouldn't change a thing. I enjoy watching the games with friends and family, and I will for the rest of my days. I just won't get down when they lose. I'll be upset, but not for long.

I'm good with the outcome of Patriots games.

One last thing...this man above? Wes Welker? Sign him. He is a true warrior. There is no one like him out there in the NFL. Nobody takes a hit like Welker. No one. Please Mr Kraft, sign this man. Sign this reliable Patriot because it is the right thing to do. And your customers (fans) love him. SIGN WELKER!

So this flat spell has been taxing for many of you out there. But this flat spell also has produced some amazing nature pics from some of the local photographers. The Sea smoke series that have been filtering in over the last couple of weeks have been amazing. And none more so than the master of them all...Brian Nevins. Brian has the keen eye and vision to capture the icy mini waves and sea smoke more than anyone else I know.

When he sent me pics this week I told him, "My winter is complete, I have my Nevin's sea smoke and mini ice wave pics." When you see the gallery you will see for yourself.

Sea smoke and Ice Waves...New England style.

Now for Some Of My Weekly Global Observances:

So who cares if Beyonce lip synched to the national Anthem last week during the inauguration? Anyone? Because I don't. I mean good lord stop the presses! This is big news? Benghazi? Yes. Beyonce? No.

So the GUN CONTROL issue is gaining momentum. The administration has taken a stand to ban all semi automatic assault weapons. And weapons that carry 10 rounds or more in a clip. I don't know for sure what the answer is to saving lives out there. But I do know plenty of responsible gun owners out there. I'm talking both men and women.
And they just so happen to own semi automatic firearms. I certainly don't think of them as a threat to our society.

I do think that this battle will get ugly before we all reach a compromise. And for the record...NO ONE wants to see another Sandy Hook. No one. Not the NRA not the anti gun lobbyists. So using that as a selling point is a moot point. Sandy Hook was the result of a deranged individual who was hell bent on causing mayhem.

The same deranged person could of used a number of ways to commit mass murder. I mean good lord, once evil takes a hold, evil will find a way to commit these horrific crimes. Like this ass below.

Khalid Sheik Muhummed used box cutters and airplanes to kill 3,000 innocent Americans on September 11th, 2001. Box cutters. My point is,
if this Jack Ass could kill 3,000 innocent civilians, the next deranged looney bird could do something just as big, and just as devastating.

I think we should get a handle on those who exhibit strange behavior.

KSM somehow got a pass to help around the prison grounds at GITMO by posing as a Donkey. You know...a Jack Ass. Just as well, he needed the excercise...he was getting a little soft just reciting the Koran everyday.

*Note to self: Must pick up a bundle of firewood at Home Depot!

The WINTER 05 Intro

by SFOD/Ralph

Featuring the absurd lecture I did about "Gonads".
I guess in hindsight I went a tad overboard. And once
again my son Max was the unknowing participant in my
wacky imagination. But hey that's the price you pay
living with Ralph.

Hurricane IGOR gave us 5 days of solid surf. Monday
September 20th, 2010 was the biggest. While Tuesday
the 21st, was much cleaner. I shot this footage at sunrise
on Tuesday in Northern
New England.

There's a lot of Casey Lockwood. There's also Ryan Jackson,
Ryan Reed, and longtime local Steve Baily. The colors on
this last day of Summer are so warm and vivid.

The surfing flows with the music. And once again, I have
chosen the amazing music by QWILL. The song is called
"Learning". So there you have it. IGOR meets Ralph and
QWILL and the results are in the visuals and amazing
audio track.

Enjoy...Ralph

North of America 1980 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

In the summer of 1980, three friends from New England went on
a surf trip North of America. Me, Larry Crateau, and Bruz Bowden. We had all been there many times before. In fact, our first surf
trip there was in 1971...we had called this place the Last Frontier. And it was.

I shot this on my old GAF super 8mm movie camera.

It is a land of many perfect points, reefs and beach breaks.
We kept it a secret for years... but like all surf destinations
the word got out. It is not a secret anymore.

These waves you are about to see, were surfed for the very
first time. These are virgin rides. I am riding my old BLACK
VINNY board, the same one my son Max rides today.
Retro swallow fish tail. 6'2"

That board is 30 years old.

The music is by my super talented nephew QWILL from his
latest CD release. The title of his CD is:The Past Must Present. Ironic huh...?

Hope you dig it...

Ralph

But the big thing is how little Mackey played his part as the

stupid, or absurd, please send it here...crackie@adlantic.com
